"Christ's Love Moves the World". A song for the 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches
Lay musicians and singers from different countries participated in the performance of the song written by the Swedish composer Per Harling, especially for the 11th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches. With this transcultural, ecumenical music project, the initiators would like to draw attention to the Assembly, which will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 31 August to 8 September 2022 and bring together more than 4000 international participants from 120 countries representing more than 580 million Christians from Orthodox, Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, United and Independent churches. The music video interprets the motto of the assembly "Christ's love moves the world to reconciliation and unity". In a world shaped by the fundamental question of how we want to live together on earth in times of COVID-19 pandemic, climate emergency and worsening racism, the motto is a testimony of faith: people who live in the love of God and with the power of the Holy Spirit, want and can work together with one another and with people of other faiths for just peace and reconciliation. The musical director of the music project is Vera Hotten, music teacher and choir director at the Evangelische Pop-Akademie in Witten, Germany. Digital tutorials enabled the project participants to practice and record their voices individually. The result is a piece of living faith and a digitally and spiritually connected community supporting the World Council of Churches. The video is freely available to all interested parties for further use. More information and contacts at www.musicmoves.net. Music moves is a project of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (Office for Mission, Ecumenism and World Responsibility and Institute for Community Development and Mission) and the United Evangelical Mission. ------- The WCC is a worldwide fellowship of churches seeking unity in common witness and Christian service.
